Ensuring that families have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is essential to a healthy community. That’s why the Waukee Betterment Foundation awarded $500 to Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity to support their ongoing work in expanding affordable homeownership opportunities in Waukee. Through their Homeownership program, Habitat partners with qualified families to build and rehabilitate homes, making sure no family pays more than 30% of their income toward housing.
This grant will directly support construction costs at the new Walnut Crossing townhome development—a 48-unit project that will bring much-needed affordable workforce housing to first-time homebuyers who live or work in Waukee. Funds from the grant will contribute to an Adopt-A-Day build experience, helping ensure one of these homes can be purchased with an affordable mortgage by a hardworking family. Construction is underway, with early units expected to be completed in 2026.
As Waukee continues to grow, partnerships like this help strengthen the foundation of our community—one family, and one home, at a time. To support projects that shape the future of Waukee, consider giving to the Waukee Betterment Foundation Endowment and help us continue building opportunities for generations to come.
