2025 WBF Grant Recipient Spotlight: Can Play

ree

This year, the Waukee Betterment Foundation was excited to award $1,500 to Can Play, an organization making a meaningful difference by ensuring all children—regardless of financial barriers—have the chance to experience the joy and growth that come from participating in sports.

Can Play strengthens the Waukee community through its Victory programs, which provide low-cost, inclusive sports and recreation opportunities grounded in four core principles: Grow, Develop, Believe, and Play. With nearly 35% of Waukee elementary students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, accessible programming is essential. Can Play helps bridge this gap, creating opportunities for kids to build confidence, develop new skills, form friendships, and explore their potential in a supportive environment.

The grant will directly support the expansion of these Victory programs by helping Can Play deliver structured, affordable, and high-quality recreational experiences—including soccer, flag football, basketball, volleyball, and floor hockey. These programs bring safe, convenient after-school activities to neighborhoods throughout Waukee, making regular participation possible for families who may otherwise be unable to access organized sports. By increasing access, the grant enhances the well-being of local youth, fosters community connection, and supports equal opportunities for recreation across the city.

Community partners like Can Play help Waukee continue to thrive. If you’d like to see this impact grow for generations to come, consider contributing to our Waukee Betterment Foundation Endowment—your support fuels the future of meaningful programs just like this.
